pre-fall picks

Philosophy

I have always been a fan of Alberta Ferretti's art deco style and I am no less a fan of their smaller, neater line Philosophy, particularly this golden some-sort-of-reptile-skin dress and this lovely little sparkling party frock.

Narciso Rodriguez

A few months ago, while watching Ziegfeld Girl (1941) I spotted a pair of amazing furry sleeves in the opening ten minutes, that you can see them below.

Imagine my delight when I clicked on to Style.com to see that Narciso R. was sending said furry sleeves down the pre-fall catwalk.

Proenza Schouler

If it was at all possible, I would wear Proenza Schouler every day.

the most wonderful time of the year...

It has got to that time in the evening (aka 0.15 am) when turkey sandwiches are being consumed and enormous volumes of tea are being drunk so I have decided to make a little post about my Christmas job or rather pre-Christmas job.
Last year I landed the most fantastic job as Santa's Assistant out at Santa's Castle outside Galway city. This year the very kind people of Footfall (who run the whole event) invited me back to relive the whole experience. Even though at times it could be stressful, it probably is the best job I have ever had in terms of fun and being rewarded through hundreds of kids with super smiley faces.
Dunsandle Castle - where the event is held - is a really beautiful place and although it unfortunately didn't snow this year, it was still pretty magical.
Here are some shoddy photographs that I took of the outside of the castle with my phone on the last day of work (the 23rd).

There are some proper photos on the Santa's Castle website. You can see me standing beside Santa in the great hall shots.

Plus, as a special treat you can see the difference between the 2010 hair and 2011 hair. Some photos (last year's ones) show me sporting long brown hair while more recent ones show short blonde hair poking out from underneath my fantastic foot tall hat.

Cheers for reading and I hope you've had a great Christmas day,

Jane

extremely bored and incredibly pretentious (part deux)

As my exams are finished and I am having a bit of a laundry day today after a night of silent disco-ing in the Roisin Dubh, in between cycles I decided to take a few dodgy instagram snaps.
boredom + instagram - study = more pretentious photographs

Now here are some unpretentiously unfiltered photos that I have recently taken on my phone.

cape cod

I quite like capes. I only posses two grey ones but I would very much like to expand that collection. Since I am currently without a camera I will just have to describe them... The first one, from Oasis, was purchased for me by sister with a pair of black patent T-bar pumps from TK Maxx during my first weekend home fro boarding school. It is a dark charcoal grey wool with a very wide collar  and has wide sleeves that come to the elbow. The second is from Vero Moda and it is a much lighter grey. It is much longer and is belted with larger circular buttons. Now that is officially fecking freezing I intend to wear them quite now.

Asos, as always, has a fantastic variety of capes all in wonderful styles and colours.
Here are a few of my favourites.

Asos WHITE Collection €161.40 €60.53
Vero Moda €147.95 €88.77
American Apparel (in navy) €73.62
These two (above and below) are the same cape but I think if I was to make a purchase of one of the two it would absolutely have to be the red one. I would just wonder around Galway like Little Red Riding Hood all day long.

same as above but in red
The coat below is not really a cape but you cannot deny its loveliness which is why I included it in this little exhibit of outerwear.

Asos Curve €134.50 €94.15

she had nothing human about her, just mystery

I have for a very long time been a fan of Edie Sedgwick and consider this November past was the fortieth anniversary of her death, I have decided to do a post about her.
I don't know when I first became aware of Andy Warhol but art has always been an important thing in my house so I guess I was probably introduced to the man himself as a child. As a kid though I probably didn't understand his art but as I got a bit older I started to appreciate it. When The Eternal Now: Warhol and The Factory 1963-1968 came to Sligo back in October of 2007, my mum and dad were given tickets to the opening night. I attended with them, with two friends of mine from boarding school and with the three of us being the only people there under the age of 40, an absolute blast was had!
While drinking tons of champagne and enjoying the oysters (ugh!), we trotted around the Model Arts and Niland Gallery, admiring the work of our man Andy.

It was a unanimous decision that the Silver Clouds instillation, created in conjunction with electrical engineer Billy Kluver, was our personal favourite as it kept us entertained throughout the night, while all of the adults chatted amongst themselves.

Seeing Factory Girl back in 2006 was, I'd say, my first introduction to Miss Sedgwick and her tragic, yet iconic, life. Having seen Edie portrayed by Jennifer Rubin in The Doors and by Michelle Williams in I'm Not There under the pseudonym CoCo Rivington, I do think that Sienna Miller's portrayal of her was truly fantastic. The image below of Edie balancing on the leather rhino is one of my favourites and I am constantly reblogging it on Tumblr. I also really like the promo shot of Sienna Miller striking the same pose.

Edie Sedgwick has been a style icon for decades and in my opinion she will continue to be for a long time as she embodies 1960s chic. Back at the beginning of the summer when I lobbed off all my hair, a friend of mine said it was kind of Edie Sedgwick-ish which I did not discourage.

evolution of hair

My exams are over! Yay!
Again with the celebratory balloons, this time with a silly wistful look.

So I have decided to do a super long post about hair. My own hair in particular. So I guess I'll start at the beginning.

Possibly a tad to far back but as you can see, I had average baby hair.

I had fair hair as a kid. I was very fortunate as with the slightest bit of sun, tons of natural little highlights would begin to appear and it grows extremely quickly too. Fast forward a bit and just before my twelfth birthday my mum took me to New York and as a treat in anticipation for said trip, I had my first dose of highlights, beginning a life long obsession with hair dye. Now compared to my older sister my zeal for hair dye just seems like a mere inclination. She has been pretty much ever colour under the sun, including intentional neon orange. My range simply covered very dark brown to white blonde and pretty much every shade in between including dark red. So here is a little inventory of pictures covering the evolution of my hair.

So that last one is pretty much how my hair has been since May only it has got a little bit longer as you can see in the picture below. After I dyed it really light blonde back in the Spring I also got my eyebrows tinted darker. I like the whole contrast thing. I intend to keep it this way for a while longer but I'll probably change it after Christmas.

Anywho so that is my hair.

Jane
